Abilities and tasks of stem cells
Stem cells are cells that every person carries inside them until a great age. They can proliferate infinitely and serve the purpose of replacing diseased or dead cells. This way they keep the organism alive. In principle, two types of stem cells must be differentiated: Embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells.
Embryonic stem cells
Embryonic stem cells are found in an early stage of development of the embryo. Therapy with embryonic stem cells is prohibited for ethical reasons because cells would have to be taken from the embryo.
Adult stem cells
Adult stem cells can be found in the organs of every person up to a great age. Where stem cell therapy is spoken of in the following, it is always the so-called adult stem cells that are mean.
